Visitors can discover more about the ideas behind the project, the Museum’s history and architecture, as well as Darwin’s ideas and inspiration through a series of text, film and graphic installations.
Each of the shortlisted artists has spent three months researching their proposal for the commission. The exhibition explores the inspiration and ideas behind the proposals and displays sketches, drawings and mock-ups of the work they hope will become a permanent addition to the Museum.
Darwin’s ideas and what inspired him are examined, starting with the voyage of the Beagle and covering the stages that led him to develop and present his ground-breaking ideas.
Museum scientist Sandy Knapp, the exhibition’s curator Bergit Arends and two judges, Richard Cork and Judith King, discuss the architecture of the building, how the project is relevant, and the thinking behind it.
This film is a collection of short interviews with each artist speaking about their proposals and the inspiration behind them.
Uncover more about the artists and Darwin through a personal study of books and transcripts from the Museum library.
