Flesh–eating beetlecam

Eating flesh doesn't sound like an enjoyable job. But the Museum has a team of workers behind the scenes who munch on animal carcasses all day and never complain. That's because they're flesh-eating beetles.

The beetles are currently eating a grey squirrel, Sciurus carolinensis.

Sorry but we are upgrading the flesh-eating beetlecam at the moment so you can't see the beetles just now. Check again in a couple of weeks and they'll be back in action.

Did you know?

The beetles will tuck into about 4kg of flesh a week.
